Today we hear a lot of terms in the context of coaching. Coaches introduce themselves as life coaches, Business coaches, Career coaches, Relationship coaches, Personal Development coaches just to name a few. A common question that runs through our minds is who these people are & what exactly do they do.
Let us try to explore this together. I would really try to keep it very simple because personally, I like simple things which are easy to understand & follow.
The root or base of all these different specializations is Life coaching.
To understand what is life coaching we need to ponder upon the question ‘what is life?’
If I ask you the question what life is & what are its different elements according to you.
A typical answer (This will hold true for a vast majority of people) would be
- Friends/Social network
- Personal Growth
There could be some variation in this but more or less applies for a vast majority (Of course including me)
The next question that pops up is what is it that we all strive for? (Do Ponder for yourselves)
The obvious answer is to Be Happy, to live Fulfilled.
Then why don’t we (most of us) feel happy or fulfilled? The reason is we feel stuck in one or many of our above-listed life elements. There could be various reasons for this. (Not for today’s blog).
This is where a life coach can play an important role.
A life coach is a type of developmental professional who helps people make progress in their lives (The various elements) in order to attain greater fulfillment.
Life coaches can help you clarify your goals, identify the obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies for overcoming each obstacle. In creating these strategies, life coaches target your unique skills and gifts. By helping you to make the most of your strengths, life coaches provide the support you need to achieve long-lasting change.
Various coaches have tried to specialize in one of the elements to create their niche in one area of so-called life & hence the various specialized coaches.
Today we talk a lot about stress management. Some amount of stress is good because it provides you the internal push to achieve more. But when we are not able to fully express ourselves in one or more of our life elements, we feel stressed & it has become a common symptom in today’s fast-paced life.
“This is who I am” “This is all that I can do”. If you are the one who resonates with these thoughts, then do not worry because you are not the only one.
I as a life coach can help you move beyond these self-imposed limitations & open you up to various possibilities that you are about.
